A little late to the party, but congrats, Ellen! A MG 360 just looks so right on you. Ever thought of getting a matching 12-string?

Thanks Jake! My avatar photo is actually of me playing my last 360, which I had to sell in April 2011, due to a money crunch.
I've thought off and on about getting a 360/12. But, I don't know if it'll happen. Part of it is due to the price (I need to let my finances recover for a while - I don't want to end up having to sell Mabel [my present 360], like I had to sell Blondie [the one in my avatar photo], due to a money crunch). Part of it is also due to the "will it fit into my playing repertoire?" question. I briefly had a Danelectro DC-12 in late 2010. It was a nice guitar, but ended up playing nothing but shades of the Byrds type things. While I do play clean, I also like to play with some seriously high gain tones a goodly amount of the time. While my 360/6 sounds great for doing crushing tones (you just have to remember to not make the mistake so many players make when trying to do metal to - jacking the highs and the mids), a 12-string can sound like a blurry mess at high gain levels. So, for the amount of playing time it would get, I don't know if I would be willing to spend a big chunk 'o change for a Ric 12. I have to do some addtional thinking about the 12-string issue.

I'm a little late to the discussion, but re: the 12 string, I say GO for it!
I briefly owned a 660/12 in Montezuma brown. (God, what it would be worth today is depressing) that I ended up selling to buy another instrument. Anyways, I thought it sounded fantastic with distortion. On the top two courses, single-note stuff sounded awesome. A very *shredding* type of sound - and I use that word as a literal description of the sound - NOT as a shorthand reference to playing scales at stupidly high speeds.
Tuned in drop-D, chords sounded E-freaking-normous. Huge and immense. Sure, it won't sound anything like a Charvel or whatever, but definitely a usable, heavy tone. This is with toasters. Which might sound better in this application than high-gains. They definitely are not muddy at all.
You won't get a lot of bending in, clearly, but the last thing the world needs is another guitarist who only plays BBCR.
I'm considering adding a 12 to my collection, which right now consists of a 360 MG, like yours. A 360 JG calls to me, but the bridge, pickups, tailpiece, and neck all point me to the 660.

Hi John,
Yep, I've been toying with getting a Ric 12. I have a Guild 12-sting acoustic, and find 12s to be a lot of fun to play. I just need to save the cash up for a Ric 12. Then it comes down to this dilemma - a 660/12 with its wider neck, but body style that really isn't my thing, or the semi-hollow 330/12s or 360/12s that I'd prefer, but have a pretty skinny neck for a 12.

Don't let the skinny neck thing put you off.

Man, after listening to this song by the guys in the vid below tonight for the first time in over 20 years (they were the talk of the town [Madison, WI], when I was going to the University of Wisconsin for Engineering Degree #1 back in the 80s), my Ric 12 string GAS has kicked into overdrive! Some interesting things/thoughts for me:
1. I was never that much of a fan for Fire Town (which had Butch Vig, and Doug [later called Duke] Erickson, of Garbage fame, as members) fan back in the day, and didn't much care for the song in the vid back then. Oh well, time does change things (I'm still a bit of a metalhead, but I have become more eclectic musically over the years).
2. What little evidence I can find (off of the album cover, and a short snippet from a video sampler on YouTube), seems to indicate that a Vox Phantom 12-strung was used. I can't help but wonder if they didn't record the song with a Ric - the Jangle isn't very Vox guitar sounding to me.

I saw his posting for the guitar. I'd love to buy it, but I can't. I'm tapped out, and have some major bills coming up in the next couple of months. So, for now, I'll have to be content with playing my Guild 12-string, for doing the 12-string thing.

It doesn't sound very Rick 12er like on my KRK headset imo

Admittedly, it's not classic Ric 12-string. It probably was a Vox Phantom 12. Oh well, a Ric 12 is cooler!
