Magazine and New Order around gigs and rehearsals in Manchester.
At the time they both had copies but I had the real thing and a Fender Bassman 100 stack.
I actually wanted to join Magazine because I thought my bass would sound better!
Great band and great talent.
I think Peter Hook bought a real Rick around 1980 or thereabouts.
I bumped into Peter Hook recently and we got talking about basses we used to own and I mentioned the Gibb bass
and how smug I was that he only had a ****** copy.
He has recently been buying basses he used to own in the early days when just starting out.
By the way he said Yes were one of his favourite bands and its a safe bet thats where he first heard flanged/chorous bass.
I need to get a Hofner tele shaped short scale bass one of these days to re-live my first days of playing bass.
Sounded great through our record player!

That chart needs to be on this forum.
That's great! I love Magazine and JD/(bits of) NO - a real insight.....didn't know Hooky was a Yes fan!

Is he going to buy another Ric? AFAIK, I don't think he ever recorded with a 'real' one? Maybe he'll go and buy another and get his first decent tone is years (sorry!!)

My 1st Ric, a Fireglow, was bought partially as I was taken by PH's. This was many years after (during the 1990's when I got into JD). I was quite put out when I realised his was a copy....and that the sound from mine didn't resemble his!
