All fretless Ricks have dot markers (unless they have had their frets pulled out and the slots filled).

I see frets in this picture, plus his Jazz in the background making at least some of these basses his.

I blew this picture up, and I swear I see fret lines. I vote that it is an "S" bass.
I can't recall ANY recording where Paul used a fretless. I have however, seen him playing an upright bass.

I, too, see some highlights from frets. I'll bet money on it, in fact...

Yeah, looks like frets to me too. I tried some fancy processing stuff in Photoshop, but couldn't get anything conclusive (I am NOT a Photoshop expert by any means), the resolution is just too low...

Yeah, I guess not. Wish there was a sharper version of the shot. I guess I'll not mention "fretless" in my sidebar on PM's Ricks.

If it is the same one, it used to be owned by Bill Black.

Yup, I tend to think it's fretted too...

I'm not 100% positive of this, but I thought he used a fretless on "Love in Song" from Venus & Mars. Anyone?

I suppose the main thing is, does anybody know of any recordings of Macca playing fretless? I can't think of any.

Most definitely the Rick FL on the Back To The Egg LP. On four tracks, After The Ball/Million Miles and Winter Rose/Love Awake. I've seen clear pics of the bass in use at rehearsals for the LP at Paul's Rude Studio. It was recorded in a Lympney castle though. I'm searching for the pics now.

In the meantime, find the cd or check on YouTube. They're there, just listened.

I zoomed in 400% and both basses look fretted.
