There was a similar one but with the BT option a number of years ago on eBay. Great chunks of maple there! :)

Around here we call that "lucking out!"

I got a break on my latest (3rd and currently only) rick - a 360 MG with nice figuring. But yours blows it away.

Congratulations Col. I've only got the 1 Ric, and I love it dearly. It's obvious by your posts here that you love Rics, and I'm glad you got this highly figured axe. I personally think it's the most beautiful 4003 I've ever seen. Enjoy your new bass.

Thanks,

Rickenbacker basses were on the top of my obtainium list when I was a teenager flipping burgers to buy his gear. They were just too rare in Quebec back then. Now that I am materialy more comfortable, I am compensating I guess?

For sure I like Rickies. I also like the fact that John Hall kept everything on a rather small scale.

I cannot wait to receive it (it is now in Hong Kong, slowy making its way to Oz). The journey to Oz is a long one for a musical instrument! Especially if it get flagged at the custom to be quarantined for a month. Oz is a bit paranoid with objects made out of wood making it across their border (for good reasons I would guess considering the unique flora found here). My Steinberger L2 was quarantined for 3 weeks... I argued that there was not a single piece of wood on it, for the Australian customs, every bass is made out of wood!!!

I received the beast today. It looks as good in person!

The neck is very nice, again totally different than my 3 others Rickies. Actually, the 4 have totally different necks. After some very minimal adjustment, the action is the lowest of all 4.

Sounds is as you would expect from a Rick. Pretty similar to my 2012 4003, but a bit more ballsy.

Build quality wise, should I declare 2004 the ultimate year? The craftmanship on this bass is absolutely perfect.

So saying I am pretty happy would be an understatement.

I've got a Nov. 2004 4003 MG and the build quality was indeed superb. The neck is, um, a full one, but it is soooo stable. It does not bother me in the least. If I decide to convert a bass to 8 strings, this one gets the nod.

Congrats on having 4 now.

Thanks for not picking Ricky Martin instead!
