Thanks for posting that Rod. Personally I love the darker FG, so this is about as good as it gets for me! I've seen quite a few pics of 1964 Rose Morris export guitars that seem to have this same very dark shading (as distinct from the lighter/more orangey Fireglo which they also used in '64)

I'm with you on preferring the darker fireglo. Late '64 is pretty much the sweet spot for me fireglo-wise. I don't care much for the lighter orange (low contrast) fireglo of the later 60's. Wonder if they were trying to save on paint?

You can tell the paint is actually a reddish purple that they sprayed on a bit heavily as they got to the edge of the guitar. Even thought it's one color, there is so much variation, from a light yellow in the middle, to orange, pink, red, purple, dark brown. Just the right amount of spray on the horns, in just the right spots, and behind the tailpiece. Must have been difficult to get it right, but the intensity of the color really pops!

Thanks for that extra description Rod.

I think it's good that they've gone back to a darker Fireglo in the latest factory shading. Prior to that my favourite was the mid-90's V64 guitars which also seem to have a consistently lovely dark shading. Having said that, your 1964 330S is on a different level again - just stunning. It also looks like it must have been incredibly well looked after over the decades - so I'm guessing that the FG shading we see on it today has very little aging effect from light exposure over the years. It must be close in colour to how it left the factory nearly 50 years ago...that's remarkable to see. :D
