Yes, that's what gangsta rappers are referring to. They are highly conscious of the tendency of vintage caps to violently explode, especially near one's posterior, and out of the kindness of their hearts frequently refer to this in a unique form of public service. Vintage caps may sound good but they kill more people each year than tuna can lids. Be careful, people.

Vintage cap arrived. Sounds great. It is a bit smoother sounding than the cheap cap. Won't really know until Wednesday band practice, couldn't crank the rig at home very loud on the weekend. Thanks for your help Dane! Legendary stuff.

I'll remember that tip. Definitely worked last week when I played 5 short church gigs for youth. Ric(with and without cheap cap)+GK+SWR Henry 8x8 cranked was massive.

Actually, I prefer a .033 capacitor for most applications in order to retain some mids that will help the "cut" or "growl," depending on the application. The best source for this value of good quality caps seems to be Sprague "orange drops."

Of course, I also like Fender 9050CL flats, which for flats actually have a growl that can take advantage of that as well.

I've also experimented with others: if the bridge pickup on a bass is between where a RIC 4001/3 pickup and a J-bass pickup is, then I use a .0068 inline, just like the Jaguars, instead of a .0047. And if the pickup is where the bridge position 4002 or J-bass bridge pickup is, I use an inline .01, as in the factory 4002 schematic and as is on my own 4002.
