Well,Sepp,if you saw the videos I posted,there was a distinct "suthen" accent there,that i also tend to think is more subtle than it really is. We Jus' Gotta be who we is! I'd love to hear you a/b the 4002/4004,cause they are gonna be pretty different with the pickup positions i reckon.

Dude, how'd you get a "suthen" accent up in Oregon? Might it have something to do with a contact high from your neighbors up in Washington?

No,but there was this incident with a special brownie......
I moved to Oregon from Memphis,TN,a few years ago. (Grew up in OHIO,lived in Memphis for 41 years,so my accent is a bit confused, )

I am so jonesing for a 4004Cii but want the new profile two piece neck. Not excited about the ones that are currently on eBay…
Any estimate for when we’ll see the next batch coming off the production line?

Andy,

Check with Chris at POTR. He has a knack of finding ones not on the open market.

He found my NAMM 4004cii that way. He knew where it was and a few phone calls later, he had it for me.
The two piece neck is a vastly improved version over the 2005 era necks.

Also, not sure how the factory does this, but mine came WITHOUT the base plate on the tailpiece. My 2005 Blueburst had it.
I asked Chris if he took it off, and he said it came that way.

It has AMAZINGLY LOW action! I've had two other 4004's and THIS one is my goto RIC. It still amazes me how versatile this bass is.

I wish I could just put them in players hands and watch their faces as they discover what great basses these really are.

The 4004s are awesome. You just have to spend enough time getting to know them as they are different than a 4003, not that you couldn't get 4003-like sounds out of them.
Andy, good luck with your search for one. I wish I had that trans red that you used to have! RIC will probably make at least a few for the NAMM show. You might be able to score one of them, if you can find out what dealer they are going to and they aren't spoken for already. I agree with what Tony suggests, check with Chris from POTR.

Joey,i can't recall if you have ever mentioned the differences in your new Ruby cii,and your other,older 4004's. i know neck size is not a big factor for you,but can you give your impressions of playing these basses side by side? I still have not had the chance to check out the newer 2 piece necks on any model.

Woody, the necks on my 4004s vary. The chunkiest (and I love it) being the '08 FG and the one with the least overall girth being the Ruby Cii that I got earlier this year. The neck on the Ruby Cii feels much like the necks on the latest 4003s. The neck on my other 4004s fall in between the two I've mentioned. The one with the slimmest profile (front to back) is my '05 Cii BBR, which feels like I had RIC custom make it perfectly for my hand. I'm much more comfortable with a chunky neck than one like a broom stick, which is why I've never owned a J-Bass. Thin or chunky, I've never played a Rickenbacker bass that I couldn't acclimate my hand to. Gary (doctorwho) had me try a bass guitar of his, I think made by Bunker? The neck was so skinny in width and profile that I could not play it. I almost felt like my fingertips where reaching into my palm.

Thanks,Joey,Good to know! My laredo has the chunkiest (by a hair) neck,compared to my cii from the same year ('04). Compared to either one of them,the '74 4000 has a super slim,fast neck,but i love them all. Someday,i will get a chance to check out the new ones....

The newer two piece necks are super! My 2011 4003 is very similar to my 2012 4004 same profile and they feel quite slender. A very shallow D profile. I really think my 73 4001 is the "chunkiest" neck of all my Rickenbackers. A thick C profile for sure but still quite nice to play. And tons of attitude with it's slotted pole treble pup and 1/2 inch position toaster!

I lusted after a 4004 for years. never getting to see one in real life was a PITA.

one day I made a decision to just go ahead and get one and went on a search. within 3 weeks I think I had one in my hands....

Un like all the replies to this thread I hated the one I got and was very disappointed with it. I didnt like the Pick ups ( didnt seem anything special as compared to my 4003) and didnt like the body either. the neck was ok but nothing to write home about.

Sepp posted a bunch of stuff in my previous thread and that side by side but it did nothing for me to keep the bass.

I was even more disappointed in the fact that I was able to get one so fast and didnt like it...

not trying to turn you away from it, just giving probably the one negative opinion on that model from my experience

Rickenbacker seems to choose product names that relate to the Southwest. The history of solid body electric guitars and Rickenbacker's part of that history is so fantastic! Many fans of Rics are rockers and/or progressive types, but its real easy to think of these great guitars and basses as country or country rock inspired instruments as well. Steel guitars were an important part of the company's early business. A quality Cowboy shirt looks perfect with a Ric!
