I love the Distillates! Quite a deal IMO, given what Alembics typically sell for.
Mine is an '83 in 32" scale, and it smokes.

I hope that my cure for GAS will happen after a Distillate and a 1964 4001/RM 1999... Oh, and white Thunderbird...

After further investigation all now seems ok, I think all it was that in its newness everything was very tight and the knurled screws were very hard to turn to raise the damper pad. After a few operations it's getting to move more freely, I might even put some WD40 on the threads to make it even easier but I'm reasonably happy with it now and am glad the mute pad didn't need to be cut down at all.
