But the rest of these will be a thing of the past.
I'm not convinced the inlays are a mod. My '70 4001 has similar inlays.
I think I recall Paul W. mentioning these were used from time to time.

I can't really tell from the picture, I was just going by what Col. Sanders called 'em...

Nice grab, Jeff! You've got a great foundation there. It looks like everything is in pretty good condition, too.

From the high rez pictures I got from the seller, it does really look like abalone/ MoP inlays. Or a very good imitation in the worst case. But on the other hand, the frets and neck bindings are original so I do not see how it would have been possible to replace the inlays without replacing the bindings.
The mystery will be solved on Friday when I should receive the bass.
