Ive seen some really nice Corian John anyway i agree with the Granite you cant beat sound of the chink of a glass on granite.

What issues have you come across with soapstone? I do know that it is a bit softer than some other stone material and should be mineral oiled occasionally, but what else?

Scratches easily and chips on the corners Jeff also try not to get the lightest of soapstone at it will darken over time.All this is is just preference of you dig it go for it. Also its hardwearing on your bottom of your glasses and dishes : God i sound like DIY geek

You should have seen what was there previously, pretty hideous IMO. This kitchen is an amazing transformation of the previous one. Everything is new but looks like it would have come with the house in 1930 except for the range hood. We were able to restore the original 1930 white oak floor, too, that had spend at least the past 55 years under vinyl tile. Here is another view.

Our old house in NY was built in 1928. It had all the old goodies with porcelain and brass door knobs, wood floors, old crown trim, and we loved it, but our new home we ordered "NEW" and while there was a certain "charm" in the old home, the "Sterile" Florida style home is MUCH easier to keep!

The Amish cabinet builder did an amazing job, better than Crown-Point! Once the kitchen os totally done I will take a lot of photos of it. The one above the range continues around the corner with more open shelf space; it is one single unit that even the GC was blown away by what Marvin made. Have you ever seen an Amish guy sweat bullets? Marvin did as that cabinet just barely (by a millimeter, really) fit into the front door of the house! I helped with moving the cabinets in from the truck, it took 6 of us to move that piece in carefully.

I got around to making some photos of the finished kitchen, today. The project went into the small connecting hall that goes to our back mudroom/back hall/basement stairwell that is still in the work stage, just a few things yet to go - Forbo Marmoleum® flooring, finish trim, and paint.
