Of course I will sell it... the fact I don't play it means it can never be my favourite guitar!

A difficult one but, on balance, I'd keep it - I've sold too many instruments over the years (including my 1974 Rick) on a whim because it felt right at the time, only to seriously regret it in later years after my tastes/playing style/band I'm in changed.

I answered Yes here, but provisionally: I would sell a favorite, but only if I really needed the money, and had no other option. I spent 20 years kicking myself over having let something go once, only until I managed to acquire another similar (and better) example.

If I were undecided about such a thing, I suppose I'd start playing it again, give it a fair amount of time, then decide whether it's a keeper.

I guess I'm not sure of the question, because if it were one of my favorite guitars, it wouldn't go unplayed

My favorite guitar gets played at least twice a week, and my second , third and fourth favorites are all handy and used on a regular basis, but there is a guitar in the music room that's largely been ignored for about 12 years. Still, I can't quite part with it and keep telling myself that I may actually need it one day.

It's a workhorse bass, a tobacco burst Fender Precision from the early 80's. Bought it new when I took a gig in an Elvis tribute band, and played the bejeebers out of it for nearly a decade. It's last regular outings were in a pickup country band in 1998. Since then, it's only come out when I need it to add a bass track to a recording. I don't even have an amp for it anymore.

Still, it's there.

When I need it, it will still be there.

Prob'ly needs new strings, though.

You can only sell it once.

I'd hold onto it for a bit, maybe spring for a good set up.

This.

Really, really wish I still had that 660/12.

Any unplayed guitar is no more a favorite… except that old axe your father/brother/cousin gave to you when you were so young.
You don't play it but it has a good place on the wall…

So, for others, when the thrill is gone, you're allowed to sell them for something much appreciated, isn't it ?

Years ago, I had around 9/10 guitars at home, all of them in the middle range of price/quality.
I decided to sell all those collecting dust, just kept one to play, and drastically reduce the number to 4.
The money allowed me to buy some amazing ones, each played very often, and I'm really pleased to have made that choice !!! 8)

Anyway, no guitar in its case for me ! All are on the wall, ready to jump !
The guitar cases are in my cellar, I use them only when gigging…

Keep it.

Hang it on wall or something as a tribute to what go you into rock and roll or guitars or whatever...

I am keeping my 360 JetGlo that I bought with my girlfriend (now wife) in 1990. Rarely played anymore... Mainly play the 480, but that old thing is cool and the times I've held it. A few PICs of me on stage with it too.

Keep it.

If I had a serious sentimental attachment to it, I'd keep it unless I needed the cash its sale would bring or it was taking up valuable space.

I 've gone through so many instruments over the years, usually the turnover isn't so much a matter of "i don't like this one anymore" so much as "SQUIRREL!!!!" (Something new and shiny, which becomes a new favorite...for awhile at least.) i just traded an Italia bass i really liked about 90%,for a jazz bass, which is now on ebay because i found something else i liked better the very next week. But my Ric basses are prety safe,i learned my lesson about the ones that got away. Not to say if i found another Ric i really liked,i wouldn't be reassing the ones i have in order to get it. I feel strongly that if i am not playing one of my basses regularly, even if i like it a lot,it has the potential to go,but usually only if i have my sights on something else.

I've got a beautiful US Strat, it was my chosen gift for 30 years service. Bought new at the time back in '98 it's a Special or Limited Edition two piece Natural Ash Strat. Sounds fantastic but...the neck for me in the last few years has been too thin. I'd be using it today if it wasn't for that. So it languishes in its case, have advertised it but as yet no takers.

I've sold/ traded very few guitars hence a rather well sized and varied collection of stuff. Luckily on the few occasions I have sold a guitar I can honestly say I didn't regret it. Goes with my cautious nature I guess.

So in answer to the question: YES

Wow, thanks for all the great replies.

As mentioned, I'm sitting on the guitar for now. I'd really like to get a 12-string back in the arsenal, so if I ever get enough cash together I'll consider selling the 330 to fund that. Don't want to mod because I know someone will really enjoy it just the way it is.

Hey Nick, ever consider changing out the neck on your Strat? It's easy and you can hang on to the original one if you want to sell it.
