We DO NOT overspray, ever! If we refinish an instrument, we use a combination of sanding and scraping to remove the finish to bare wood and start the refinishing process from the sealer up.

As such, this instrument was refinished by someone outside of our factory, period.

I'm frankly surprised anyone would even suggest that. No refinisher worth his salt would just paint over an existing finish without at least removing it first.

Well, someone has done mighty impressive job of EXACTLY removing any clear coat and ONLY the clear coat of the fireglo underneath then to respray over the top, 'cos its bare colour coat fire glo there.

Ill also add, the black colour coat is ultra thin, as is the clear over the black... Thinner than my fender custom shop nitro reissue basses! Must have been a top dollar refinish done by musicians friend on this, as the bass was virginal and unplayed (zero fret wear). Love to know who they used!

What's the manufacture date? This is really bizarre.

Ok, I've not peeked inside many Rics..
This is the control cavity. This is just a matter of curiosity now.

(Jammed the bass at rehearsals last night, good god it slays.. Ric->fairfield overdrive->GK RB->2xGK212. It was beyond brutally viscous!)

Curiosity got the best of me.. I dampened a piece of tissue.. Red starts coming off, it faded it considerably.

Yes.. Aliens who fastidiously stripped it to bare wood, carefully dyed it with a fireglo finish, then half arsedly finished it in jet glo!!

I just found this thread, "Finish advice for 4003", but I can't locate the "Start advice for 4003" thread ...

On a serious (and chemical) note, some of the experiences sound like the color coat isn't cross-linking with the primer coat. Maybe the dark finishes don't allow the UV to penetrate far enough?

Just happened to see the top of the box.. Serial number matches.. colour matches, ship date would be correct.
Sorry guys, this HAS to be a factory repaint.. It left the factory as JG.

Ill just add, I'm not after anything. I'm not looking for warranty support (Its out of warranty), I did come here to get info on the finish and how to correct it.
