If you're going to do this accurately, you'll have to find some A353 or 5657 Aluminum-Magnesium alloy, both of which were used at various times.

Mr. Hall,

Thanks! I'll give the machinist that info. While I'd like to do this as accurately as possible I think it's all going to come down to what he has in the shop. As it is, I'm going to be giving him a brand new zinc saddle to replicate so right from the start there is a bit of a departure from the original saddle. Unless of course you have a minty aluminum saddle "laying" around in a desk drawer, that you don't mint loaning me. If so, that would be awesome!! I promise I'd return it to you. Honest Injun!! :D No seriously, you would get it back, I mean it!

If you give him a zinc saddle, it will hardly fit in the old cast aluminium bridge. Do you have an aluminium saddle to lend him?

If not I can send you one when I will receive my 72 4001 being refretted by Paul W. Mind you it can take a while!

I have a spare new modern 4001 bridge unit with uncut saddles (zinc I assume) which has never been used and which I'd be happy to loan out, if it would help?

I have an April '73 saddle from the gap-toothed era I'd be happy to loan out. Unfortunately, it's is slotted (well off-center, which is why I had to remove it), but one should be able to replicate the overall design from it. Let me know; I'd love to get a proper replacement.
