Making my 330 sound like a 325?

^^^ nah, no need to get 3 pickups, but a swap with toasters would interest me. The hi-gains are perfect for modern rock but now i am more on a retro trip with my own songs. No need for sustaining lead guitar anymore
But i read many here prefer toaster for 12 strings and hi gains for 6. why so?

I did the toaster and TI flats mod with my 330/6. As some mentioned before rolled back volume and tone pots brings it close to the desired sound.

Are You already using a VOX AC 30 (or compareable amp)? That's a part of the sound, too.

BTW I use a compressor for that.

Kira's idea with the capo and changed tuning is very nice, also. (Thank You for that, Kira!)

IMHO it is not the same but VERY close to what You are looking for.

I use a ac15c1 with the bass rolled off and little treble, cut at 50% - gets me a nice beatles sound with my gretsch tennesse and ric.
Either a rode nt2a or a golden age ribbon mic is in front of the cab. At mixing i use a fairchild compressor emulation, so the missing link is a 325 and a neumann u47

For the moment, my 325c58 is wearing .011 Chromes. You shouldn't have too much trouble with .011s but they will still feel a little slinky. Pyramid does have a reputation for being rather high tension, so watch your setup with those.

Only up until JL "retired" the Hamburg and started using the "Miami" on a regular basis.

Tension varies as the square of the scale length and the difference of the square of the cross section. So if you're used to playing 10's at the full scale, then 12's on the shorter scale will have about the same feel overall. A little less flexible, if you're into bending notes, but for straight forward fretting, about the same.

I go the other way: when I want a "terz" or raised pitch guitar tone that is bright but a different kind of jangle, I'll string up my 320 with 9-40 instead of 12-52 and tune it up to G#. But because the strings are lesser diameter, the resulting tension is about the same, and I don't need to adjust my rods or bridge.

Math: if a string has about 20 pounds of tension at 24 3/4 inch scale, then it will have 20.8^2/24.75^2, or about 14 pounds of tension at the smaller scale.

A 10 E string has about 15.3 pounds of tension at RIC regular scale. A 12 E string has about 21.9 pounds of tension at the same scale. This means that a 12 E string, when tuned down for regular pitch at the 3rd fret, will have about 15.4 pounds of tension at the shorter scale.

First off, I believe he said he didn't like the '64 as much.

Whatever Lennon said in later interviews, he used the Miami almost exclusively on stage and screen during the height of the Beatlemania period. Would you do that with a guitar you "didn't like" if you were a multi-millionaire and could afford any guitar? Or even just continue playing the '58?

As for your claim that he "didn't use it much", that's just untrue. Hard Day's Night (movie and album)? Help (movie and album)? Beatles For Sale? Rubber Soul? Hundreds of shows '64-'65?
