Hartke nickel (cheap 3 pack) strings. They've really been a reliable (and economical) favorite of mine for a while.

They have a bit of clank to them I don't get much when I use nickels. It could be your rig or technique, but I was expecting you to say steels with some low-mid boost or something to that effect. It's a cool tone because it is not overly bright and more than adequately "fat" on the bottom end.

I've got DR fatbeams (ss) on my 4000 now,i sometimes think they're almost TOO bright,even after being on for over a year now. I have a brand new set of Sunbeams (same roundcore construction in nickle) that i may have to throw on there.

I have Sunbeams on my '67 RM and they are very nice! That's the first set of them I've tried.
