Yeah...that song was cool.

Why does the name Richard Eliot sound familiar??? Not sure I know who he is.

When I first heard Kittyhawk the term "smooth jazz" wasn't in the lexicon yet, that had to wait until The Wave came on the air in 1987 (IIRC). RE has since that time become well know in the smooth jazz world. Not my cup of tea, too smooth for me, but he is a good horn player, maybe not up to Peter McCormack's abilities, but close.

At least, I can say I saw him in a small club in Columbus, Ohio, back when he was a nobody, playing in a pretty cool band with two stickists. 8)

If you read the earlier postings you will see the guys name is Lee Pomeroy. He's a well known bass player and session guy here in the UK. He is the bass player for Take That and It Bites to name but a few.

Funnily enough Steve Hackett's last main touring bass player was also left handed (Terry Gregory) and he too plays with right hand string set up!

Jimmy Haslip was the first Lefty bass player I saw do that. His basses are TRUE Lefties, with Right hand stringing.

Go figure!!!!!!!

Keith Horne also plays that way.

Thanks for note on Lee; I recall reading an interview with him a few years ago, maybe in the UK Bass Guitar Magazine I used to subscribe to. I'd still be getting it but they made it more difficult to re-subscribe last year so gave up on it.

Thanks Baker for the info. That guy is VERY impressive!!!!!! I always get excited when I see a Lefty.....especially if they're playing a Rickenbacker!!!!!!

I have read a few issues of that UK bass guitar magazine. Good mag. but, IIRC, they don't ever have any Ric ads.

I don't know whether his 4003 has the vintage tone switch fitted, it certainly sounded to me as though it is without the cap which is a bit of a no no if you're playing old Genesis material and trying to get anywhere near Mike Rutherford's sound!

I know he's always been a big Genesis fan so am a bit puzzled, if his 4003 doesnt have the switch I think I would have had one fitted for the tour.

Being the HUGE Squire freak that I was/am...I always measured other players "Ric Bass" sound to his.
I was always amazed at how, while still playing a Rick, Mike coaxed a different sound out of his.
I LOVE old Genesis, and admired ALL of the guy's playing abilities......especially Mr. Rutherford!!!!!!

His playing on "Smallcreep's Day"--later solo effort---STILL blows me away!!!!!!!

I haven't played that album for some years! Still got it somewhere (on cassette), I don’t recall the solo you refer to, I'll have to dig it out and have a listen, if I can find a cassette player that is!

You Genesis guys should check out THIS band:
(I've linked it to a specific spot in the 30-minute video I think you proggers will be able to somewhat stomach LOL, but check out the whole thing if you can)

We normally only do the 70's stuff, but for this 1983 show how could we not do this??? 8)
