I don't really pay attention to the bridge; I have two Rick 12 strings, one with a six saddle and one with a twelve saddle; I just string it up, tune it up, and go. I use D'Addario's, because they're made with the CNC equivalent for winding strings, so the diameter is consistent, making for easy intonation.

I practiced with the new girl all week, but in the end took my strat to play in church Sunday. Couldn't even make a clean open C chord, first finger would buzz on the high G string. I really think I want to order a new nut with the pairs closer together. If I get the "official" one (Rickenbacker post 2002? I saw it somewhere online, can't find it now) and have it installed will I devalue the guitar at all?
Is it possible to change the nut myself? They are usually just glued in with a rather weak glue, correct? Looks like if I take off the truss rod cover plate a good whack with a rubber mallet will pop it off. I will probably take it to my luthier though, not a good guitar to learn on.

Keep the original nut in case you want to go back or sell the guitar, but to answer you question, that should not devalue the guitar. You can change it out yourself, just keep in mind the nut slots will have to be filed/adjusted; do you have nut files?

Here is the one I found in another thread:
http://boutique.rickenbacker.com/NUT-ST ... p_568.html
Looks like it is already slotted, or is that just for display, or do they all need tweaking after installation?
No, I don't have a set of files. I can do most any electronic work on my guitars, and simple set-up stuff, but am not a real luthier nor have I stayed at a Holiday In Express lately. Will probably have my "local guy" (Tom Buckel) do it.
Thanks for the guidance.

The nut is slotted when you get it from Ric boutique or a dealer

Dont expect the nut just because its been slotted to drop straight in and be glued.Id buy the proper Ric nut and take it to a guitar Tech to do a proper job setting it up.
