I hear that, as a programmer by day. I recently had to get a new mouse and thought a little mini one would be good. After a couple days it caused a serious cramp in the base of my thumb. I guess it's a good unit to go in the laptop bag when I work remote, but had to get a standard size one.

As for the use of a mouse interfering with tennis/golfers elbow (I know they are different, but for this discussion I think they are essentially the same), alternating the hand you use can be effective if you are comfortable doing so. I'd also advise learning as many keyboard shortcuts as you can to minimize the use of the mouse in the first place.
