The problem with losing the neck pickup on a 4004 is the issue of what to do when a truss rod needs to be removed...
It's not worth the cost to redevelop the truss rods just to allow for one less hole.
However if that were the case the neck strength at the heel would be substantially increased....

That could be the battery compartment for the battery that powers the buffer preamp of the piezo pickup; see how this all works, perfectly?
