I have a factory 5 string 4004 but replaced the faulty pickups with Barts. Sounds very good but I am not really playing it anymore. I have a 6 string Michael Tobias Design fretless that I currently play and love it. I also have a Chapman NS Stick that also sounds great but it's a bridge between a bass and regular Stick so the bass part of the design uses lighter gauge strings than I like but it's a great instrument if you want to use it both as a bass and also a melody instrument.

I too would love to see Ric restart 5 strings and even a 6 string but they seem to want to focus on their more traditional instruments and most players seem satisfied playing with 4 string 4003's or 4004's.

By the way, I also had some 4-2-5 conversions (2 4004 cii and 1 Laredo) done for me by Jeff Rath. I ultimately sold these but they were also great to play.

Me. Not 6 string.
3. How many Rickenbacker bass players own 5+ string basses from other brands begrudgingly or out of necessity, wishing they could maintain their brand loyalty and further exploit the unique and amazing tone, playability and sheer eye-watering beauty of their other Rickenbacker instruments?
I begrudgingly played other brand 5 string bass guitar until I could get one from Rickenbacker
4. How many Rickenbacker bass players would jump on a 5+ (pref 6) string Rickenbacker bass? (gosh, how could a 6 string Rickenbacker bass open the world's eyes!) Not sure if I need another 5er. For several years, 5ers were all I played. The last couple of years, I've only really need a 4 string. I have no real interest in a 6 string, never did.

There is no dreaming with Rickenbacker, enjoy what they make (I DO), or mod what you got. If you want something special from the company, one must be somebody and have hit albums. Its just business, and their plan sure isn't broke. I had a vintage fender six and it was great, sold it, needed the money, regret it, so I had a custom six built by a friend.

What we focus on are instruments that actually sell well. Benn there, done that with 5 and 6'ers, and industry sales stats back us up on that.

Not quite true. You wouldn't believe how many calls we get from "hit artists" that have special requests, that we turn down. James Hetfield is a case in point.

Who we DO support are artists that have already been loyal and supportive to us for some time AND are personal friends that will deal with us one on one rather than through managers.

I'd be interested to know WHAT Rick James Hetfield would wanna play, and what he wanted done to it.

The 4004 series is so easily modified to accommodate five strings, I'd be happy as long as they produced 4004s.

Well put Mr. Hall, I made a statement out of an assumption, not having the information you would obviously have. Still, I have five shortscale gibsons I play and one Rick 3000 that I am wearing out because I love it. Ok, I am dreaming of a 4005 body, shortscale neck, 2 different pickups, with some cool hardware of somesort. Would sell I tell ya. But you graciously answered that in another post.
