Re: HB1 in bridge position of a 4003
So I'm finally around to putting this HB1 in my 4003. I'm going to leave the higain in the bridge position. With that being sad, can someone tell me which wires on the HB1 should go to ground and which ones should go to the toggle etc?

Oh, it's not really so sad...loverickbass wrote:So I'm finally around to putting this HB1 in my 4003. I'm going to leave the higain in the bridge position. With that being sad, can someone tell me which wires on the HB1 should go to ground and which ones should go to the toggle etc?

The "official" wiring diagram can be found here:
http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19521-HB1%20Wiring.pdf
Which shows the blue/shield wire goes to ground and red goes to the switch...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

D'OH! LoL, ok thanks for that info brotha. That will bring the higain and the HB1 in phase with each other correct?
Re: HB1 in bridge position of a 4003
I've never checked it myself, but others have said that the HB-1 is the opposite phase from the hi-gains. If that's the case, you would have to wire it up backwards to have it in phase...

So blue goes to switch and red goes to ground.

Yes. It might be good to move the shield to the red as well, just to keep things "right" as far as shielding goes...

OK, looks like I've got an older HB1, it's got red, green, white, black and shield.

I'm thinking about doing this to one of my basses as well. Variety.loverickbass wrote:I was going to put HB's in both positions.

Do it. You won't regret it. Dane made me a new wiring harness for mine. It took a whole lot of the mud away for the HB1.

I've got HB1s with Dane's 500k push/pull pots. I love having all the tone options but I usually have the neck HB in humbucking mode and the bridge HB in single coil. Very chesty thump.
It's too early in the morning to talk about our relationship !
