Are they really worth the price, though? Can't beat a set of Roto's ;)

they are really worth the money and they have just been improved, i had a set on a 4003 for 6 months and they sounded the same from the day i put them on. i have used rotosounds for years wish i had found the elixirs long ago, as i would have saved money . rotos sound great for a week then die off, and too many duff strings in packs. yes the elixirs are expensive but the last for as long as you like, they feel great , they sound great, hard to beat to be honest.

Just took delivery of a new 4003 Jetglo, first time i have had to do nothing but change the strings !! whoever put this one together enjoys their work its a 2013.
really nice growl from this one and thick tone. nice dark fretboard too.
Happy new bass George!

Did you not like the stock Ric strings then? I must admit I put Rotos on mine not longer after I bought it but the stock strings really aren't that bad, but most people seem to change them to their preferred string type.

I had to adjust the neck on my 4003 as there was way too much relief and the D string was binding in the groove on the nut, but the bridge was spot on, as was the intonation.

The past few years they have made some very nice basses, build quality very good and superb finishes on them.

There's something unique about Rics which you simply don't get with any other basses. :D
