I think I may have become or am becoming a Born Again Ric Fan!!! I owned a late 90's V63 a few years back....Sold it to buy a T Bird...I should Have Kept it. I Love the McCartney/Chris Squire/Roger Waters Rickenbackers.

I don't care if this is restored or not. I will take this to the Grave. My Thunderbirds are in a coma......I wish we could get Rickenbacker to make a 59 4000 with a Maho neck...and even and 8 string like that would KILL!!!!!

A reissue HS isn't going to sound anything like the one you currently have in the bass.

+1 John!
Looks like Dale, if Dale transformed this bass, did a nice job. What was the donor bass? is there a serial number on the jack plate?? I'm guessing new body wings were made and added. I wonder if this is a ground up creation or a heavily modded Rickenbacker.
A real horsie would really make this one special!! A late 50's re configured lapsteel pup with real horseshoes.

And the original HS that was in the bass wouldn't have sounded anything like the one in there currently either.

Yup. Looks to be a variation of a high gain - magnet under the coil bobbin. The shoes are cosmetic only.
Not dissing the bass!

John Hall, why don't you guys start making the original style lapsteel pickups so we can get them, modify them and use them in our basses?
I bet they'd sell like hotcakes!

In the Lollar Lawsuit thread in the General Section, Mr Hall mentionned that RIC would start doing magnetic horseshoe again after the market has been cleaned.
Lollar is not producing its HS anymore (and I am kicking myself not to have bought a couple when it was the time) so maybe, if Mr Hall is a man of his word, RIC will finally produce a real Horseshoe and not the current fake, er... Sorry... Re-issue...

There is not even close to a million dollar yearly market for a horseshoe pickup!
The only reason RIC would do it would be to satisfy the whinging Horshoe purists (to which group I associate myself with).

Ok, Maybe not a MILLION dollars..but it sure s heck would not hurt to have that pickup design offered as an option in addition to the Hi-Gain!

Actually, I was kidding! However, the thought that RIC might offer some real magnetic horseshoe pickups is a happy one!
