Kevin & Jeff, same on my 65 4001. The string to string tone and volume is even across the board. Not so with Snow White. If I struck the string on an up swing, the tone was vastly different from a down stroke. Madding, it was!!

Hopefully this 68 has none of those issues!!

The A, D & G strings sound amazing, but I have to be careful how hard I hit the A. The E is way too over-powered, but I can't get it any lower. Couple that with the drastic drop in volume when combining the toaster and it forced me to put a Lollar re-wound '73 hi-gain in it over the weekend. It sounds really good (not as good as the HS), but all my problems went away.
The volume drop... Sound like the pickups might be out of phase. Simply swap hot and ground wire coming from one of the pickups.

Kevin, are the shoes equally charged? What if you temporarily swap shoes; does the volume problems stay or follow the shoe? Also, sounds like one pup is out of phase with the other.

I tried swapping the leads and it didn't help, but haven't tried swapping the magnets. Starting to loose patience.

Of course you would need the whole bass for proper de-bugging.

To put this thread back on track, I have a question.

The treble side truss rod is missing half the threaded area. It seems the tip of the rod snapped off at some pint. My intention is to remove the rod, cut more threads and trim the end. The rod will be a little under .5 of an inch shorter than the bass side.

I tapped both rods down to the neck pup rout, but there are no rod channels cut "south" of the neck pup rout. Im going to have to exert a bit of upwards pressure to have the folded ends clear the edge of the rout. Is this OK??

Thoughts? Suggestions??

Also, I thought there is supposed to be electrical tape sandwiched in between the road. It does not appear to be there on these rods. How important is this?? It's to prevent rattle right??

Trussrodectomy complete! I don't know what i was thinking! They have to come out the headstock end! April fools??

The broken rod has already been threaded further down the rod but the opposite tip was never shortened to allow the nut to seat further! I'll nip the end and angle her slightly to match the spare set of rods I purchased from Paul W. months ago. Both rod ends are flat with no angle on them whatsoever. On Pauil's rods he has them angled slightly and it looks like he heated and hardened the tips to facilitate the arcing process a little.
