Ok, the serial number on the Jackplate is XL 1474, does this help?

Very nice. XL means December 1984, so it is certainly an early 4001V63 lefty. Technically not a PMC but the same as a PMC.

No - just that it predates RIC offering the PMC as an option. As Paul said it has all the same features - but its correct designation is a Left Handed MG v63.
John Hall started the v63 series in October 1984 right after he and his wife bought the company from his father FC Hall in September. (The factory was closed during the sale period which is why you will never find a RIC with an SN starting Xi). The v63 replaced the notoriously inaccurate B Series basses made in 1982 and 1983.
In fact you could get this exact same bass in Fireglo.

Didn't know about the factory closing for a month. Good to know! Thanks, Brian!

Ok...now I understand. Thank You!!!
I knew the V63 replaced the B series.
What I didn't know was that you could have a Lefty V63 without it being a PMC bass.
And YES...that is a very nice bass!!!

Thanks again.

On page 83 of the book, there's a photo of a later (don't know the date, but it has a Made in USA sticker on the pickguard) non PMC lefty Mapelglo V63.

There are not many 1984 v63 basses in the Register. Only 5 so far collected.
http://www.rickresource.com/register/in ... celebrity=
But at the bottom of one of the entries you will find this.
This item was identified as a Modern (1984 and up) instrument
The following is a summary of sales of above referenced model gathered from actual sales on eBay:
*Basis for comparison: Same model, same strings number, same "special" features, same era
Sample type Min Avg Median Max Sample Size
Same model, same era: $1025 $2312 $2226 $3771 98
I am sure the fact it is a leftie (and hence rarer) would push it towards the higher end of this scale.

John Hall has discussed his purchase of the company over at the RIC corporate forum. I will see if I can find the tread again.

Wow, ok then... thankyou this is a great help. So I'll probably list it at $3500, I see the top price went for $3771, and this was a right hander.

Higher prices may have other factors in play. Some of the rare colors for V63 will do that. I had a Turquoise V63 that sold for $2950. Lefty V63 could possibly get that high, but you're not showing mercy on your "own kind."
