Okay Gents....thanks for all of your advice! So here's the one I'm considering. A very clean late '09 with 2 pc neck. I can get this for $1300 shipped. Fair price?
Thanks much!

Looks really nice!
Probably the best thing to do is buy both basses and return (or not

) the one that doesn't do it for you.
We all do that kind of thing around here all the time.
Suggest this idea, anyway.

I guess if I don't like it, I can sell it for what I have into it.

I think $1300 is a fair price to pay for that bass, and it's got all the good features that have been incorporated into these basses over the last several years.

Nothing better than a factory new 2014 anyway.

I don't know about that. I've had two new Midnight Blue Ricks whose finish peeled and flaked just out of warranty. At least with a clean used one you're not only saving money, but any defect would have already shown itself, leaving you in the clear.

I have a preference for the neck profile in the 09 range. 1300 is a solid deal. I say rock that bad chicken.

I got stupid and didn't reply to the counter offer untill after dinner.,,,,,lost a good one there. Contacted the seller to let him know that if the other buyer doesn't come through, I would buy it. Ya gotta know that's not going to happen. lesson learned.

Bummer. But that's the way it goes sometimes.
When I bought my Laredo about 10 years ago I was jonesing for a MG. Couldn't find any 4004's for sale, so one day when Music123 got 3 MB's I decided, after some hemming and hawing, to pull the trigger. That was at about noon that day, and it was too late.
Soon after I saw this Fireglo Laredo at POTR's and said "Maple-what?"
So sometimes it works out for the best.

Gents, thank you all so much for your advice and help. Just purchased a MG 4003 from Bruce at Wildwood Guitars today. This bass is flatwound bound!

See I told you the Force would lead you to a new one. I got one from Wildwood two weeks ago. Congratulations! Post pics when you can. It will be well packed and well set up.
