Thanks again!

I'm sure you mean the 80's (unless you had some sort of time machine) 8)

Ha!! I'm really aging myself here...

Well I was in a prog band at the time. We did a mixture of covers. We started in 76 and went through 79.

If I can find a pic of the old Rick I'll post it. I also had a nice P Bass.

To be honest, I wasn't very technical back then. I wanted the Bass that Chris Squire played. I had no idea what the models were. I couldn't find one that looked like that but I did find one that looked
like Mike Rutherfords bass. It had the triangle fret markers so in my later years I always thought it was a 4003. Wow the things you learn here! Now I wish I had kept it. It was traded for a Gibson ES-175.

Thanks for all the help and the info!

When I got my first Rick, in 1973 after seeing Genesis the first time, I too was looking for a 4001 but ended up with a 4005WB made in Feb. '67, instead. I had no idea what it was but it is what it was and turned out to be a rather cool and great sounding bass.

I want the bass that Chris Squire plays

And the talent to do it justice. That's where it all falls down, of course...

Steve,

I hear you!

Chris said the 4001CS doesn't really sound the same as his original bass.

As far as playing, the one song that takes you into the head of Chris Squire is "Heart of the Sunrise" It's truly brilliant writing for the bass.

If you can play that one along with the recording, you've arrived! Many years ago I was determined to learn that one. There's just so much in there along

with Bruford trying not to hit on the down beat! A true masterpiece.

I guess I arrived! I learned that song in the mid '70s, and by now have probably forgotten how to play most of it!!!

Yep, in late 1971 I was a high school freshman, in a study group with a cute girl named Carol, who happened to look quite nice in miniskirts. The library we studied in had a person behind a desk who would play records for you, and the whole group could sit at these tables together with headphones. We all brought LPs to the group, to listen to while we studied, and this particular week, Carol brought in one of her brother's albums, a thing called "The Yes Album". I loved the music, and was rather fond of Carol too. I got a copy of the album, Carol and I never went anywhere but our separate ways, but that album changed my life! I took my son to see Yes when they came this way back in August...
Yikes, now I went and hijacked the thread, sorry!

So, Carol changed your life, eh? Does your wife know about this?
