The only way you could eliminate a problem with the rods is to pull them and check them. Since your guitar tech or luthier has probably never removed the rods on a Rick, I'll bet he's guessing. Since your problem only just appeared, I'm still betting on the rods. If you go to Joey's Bass Notes website, or sesrch this forum, you'll see how to service the rods.
