My feeling is that if Ric did something like (say) a run of instruments with checkered binding, it would cost them little more to build than a normal Ric. They could mark the month's run up by $100 and I doubt anyone would complain. They would still make more money than on a standard run. Any limited run is ok and you either opt in or not. I doubt there are many unsold limited Rics in stores.jps wrote:The main difference is, are there enough US and UK buyers who will gladly step up to the plate without beeching and moaning about the instruments? As I understand it, the Japanese crave these instruments and worship them without picking them apart.
If anyone starts 'beeching and moaning about the instruments', it is usually a matter of issues with the instrument afterwards. Like I said, I bit the bullet when I had stopped buying basses to get together with my 4003W and am overjoyed with it. Not a bad word at all to say about it, neither my 4003BB (2002) or standard 4003FG (2001).
