I would've really liked that bass! (And neck)
My favorite necks are my '04 Laredo, and '04 Cii,they were produced at opposite ends of the year, and even those 2 necks are somewhat dissimilar.

My Cii is the one that I sold to Chris Pappas who sold it to Mark Gilbert (who turned it into a 5 string with his weird location of the 5th tuning key at the cresting wave of the headstock) who in turn sold it to Brian Crisman who sold it to Paul Boyer who sold it to ??? You could have bought it somewhere in between all that!

When I was getting my custom built, I measured a lot of necks from a lot of basses. The differences between my 75 4001 and '04 Laredo were not huge. The Laredo is a little wider at the join to the body, the nut widths were essentially identical (within less than a millimeter), and the 4001 was about 1 mm thinner than the Laredo.
Of course, those "minor" difference do feel huge to our fingers.

Profile makes a bog difference in feel, too.

No doubt - the 4001 is a "D" profile to the 1st fret; the Laredo transistions to a "C" at about the 4th fret.

We wouldn't want to get too bogged down in the details, however!

I think my 4004's have a D-minus profile....

Pre 2012 4004's necks are about 1/4" wider where they meet the body, which is why they make great 5-string conversions.

Designing a custom guitar is nothing if not for details. And more details. And "wow, I never thought of that!". And "what are you talking about?". And more details...
It was a worthwhile effort, however, as I like this bass far more than my old J bass (just don't like the thin nut width and the 3/8" string spacing at the nut) and it does look good.
