There are 4 eras of pickups ...
1960's 1970's 1980's and 1990 to present ...
Through the years Ric continued to add more copper windings on the pickups ... so each new generation is thicker and hotter ... so a 1990 pickup and a 2003 pickup should sound identical ...
There are some members here who prefer the older sound and ther are some like me who prefer the 1990 and later pickups ... I love that thunderous modern sound ...

Within each "era" there is a variance ... I have about ten spare Ric pickups and 12 installed ones ... the ohm readings are different on all of them ... none identical ...
But the pickups from each era will fall within a certain range ...
Also each ric
The pickups from each era have their own unique character ... then with or without the capaciter ... there is an interesting variety of sounds ...

Hey Jeff, would you be interested in selling any of those spare pickups that you have? I'm looking for a high gain neck pickup with the chrome and the 4 buttons....anything would be fine, but something from the early to mid 70's would be cool. If you're not selling, then I'll keep looking.
I've been trying to order a new one from Rickenbacker but its been back ordered for over a year. Same story with a 4003 bridge....

I have 4 extra high gains ... but they all have 6 poles ... that will work on a bass ... but for looks you may prefer 4 poles ...
My extra 4 pole high gain is going through surgery ... it is having a rail installed in place of the poles ... it is one of my frankenstein experiments ...
Igor ... flip that switch ...
