Why limit yourself, you can always at some point get a new, or a really good used modern one, but, a decent 70's model is worth looking at, and getting

+1. I love the modern Ricks (we all need some in our collection) but there is something special about a 4001, especially those made up to the mid '70s.

My '73 sounded nothing like either of my v63s or a modern Rick, and the feel of the neck was different as well. All three are Ricks, and quite good, but all different in their own way... A 70s skunk-striped RIck is a totally different animal, and nice to have....

What could be better than having a 4001? Having two (or more) of them!

+1 I got my "73" on Friday and waited till Saturday to unpack, I agree wholeheartedly with your comments about the difference. I've owned and Played Ric's for over 40 years and this 73 is the nicest sounding by far of all my RIc's, the neck and action are lovely, and the sound is powerful and rich, this one is going to get a lot of playing time

Lordamighty, that is a nice bass! Beautiful Fireglo, with ALL the fixin's....

Very nice!

And she sounds as good as she looks, better even ... the only goodie it doesn't have is crushed MoP inlay, other than that it's got all the good stuff, split bridge,

chequered binding,
full width inlays,
closed Grover machine heads (still in great working order,

and, surprisingly enough, she has absolutely zero, I mean none, not a trace of tail lift, the rear of the bridge is flush with the body.
