Need a new trussrod cover

Can someone tell me when the trussrod covers changed from "3d" lettering to the flat type on new guitars.

You've actually got it backwards. I believe the clear plexi back painted truss rod covers were replaced by the molded ones in 1976. Vintage reissues still get the plexi cover.
