I've put flats on a lot of Ricks over the years, they sound great with them. Here is one example:

I will put none other than flats on my Ricks or any other makes. This includes guitars (6 and 12 string).
You will find a great many lovers of flats here

Amen, brother! I find that flats give me the real "meat" of the note without the sproingy overtones, finger noise or clackiness inherent to roundwounds. Also our band has an acoustic, an electric and a steel guitar so I don't want to compete with them. I'd rather inhabit my own space underneath and support them. Before I made the switch I was worried that flats wouldn't have the sustain I needed and would be too thumpy but that just isn't the case.
By the way, Jeff, you are a MONSTER! What a fantastic group and you've got THE tone!

That was excellent, Jeff. When did you tape it? Didn't you sell that V63?

Thanks, Greg. I've been called a MONSTER before, but not for my playing!
Jeff, that show was done in September 2008, and yes, the V63 lives with a forum member in Berkeley, Ca. I believe he has been trying to sell it for a while now to help cover some family expenses. You will find the FS ad on TB.
Here is some more from that video with other snippets of songs, some with my old '08 4003, too.
Here is a video from a show at the Beachland Ballroom (not very good quality, unfortunately) of a solo section of a song written by the first drummer of the band, Paul Stranahan, and I. I am standing in the same spot Chris Squire did a few months earlier!

Yes, the wood selection for that one was very well done.

Thanks so much, guys--I couldn't be happier! Someone definitely took their time selecting the wood and matching the grain. Not that I'm complaining, but I wonder why they used this wood for a run-of-the-mill 4003? I'm just glad they didn't spray it Jetglo!

Luck of the draw, really. Every neck-through body wing is cut from the same stick. If that stick happens to have figure running up and down the length, you'll have a pair of wings that look like that.

Interesting! Ben, I think it's so cool that you take the trouble to personally answer questions on the forum--I feel honored!
