Same here. At the time, I had just started dabbling into bass playing (I play the guitar). Money situation was tight back then, so I couldn't afford the CS. Finally, when the 4003S was announced earlier this year, I decided to go for it. I was told it would take a year to get mine, so that gives me time to save up some money.

When I placed my order, I was wondering what colour I should order. With Chris Squire being my favourite bass player since my teenage years and Paul McCartney whose bass playing I have come to appreciate later on, MG seems to be the one for me. But then, the MG colour does not look like Squire's RM. In the end, I ordered an FG, since that was the original colour of both Squire's and McCartney's bass.

I have no plans on refinishing mine, but I would like to swap the knobs to the vintage type. RIC does not make the real Horseshoe pickups anymore, so I will stick with the stock pickups.

Next one went for $5.900. One left at $5,800 so far, a few days left.

And the next one went for $5200 (no COA)

Although I don't think I see myself paying $5,000 for one, even if that would be a fair price and I had the money.

A few months back, one sold for $1700 +/- on Ebay, but it was beat to all hell. I saved the pics on my phone of all places.

My CS (though I never thought it possible) means MORE to me now than it did before. I've always said that to me, it was just a connection or hat tip if you will, to Chris. If I have any say in the matter, mine will never be sold while I am still on this Earth.

I bought the CS Serial #45 that had some minor paint issues near the bridge. Yeah, I know I overpaid, but this bass has been on my bucket list for years. I tried buying it weeks before CS passed away, but the Seller wouldn't disclose the reserve on it and kept re-listing it. Anyway, CS's death hit me very hard. His birthday is the day after mine and YES were the first band I got into on my own when I was 13 and also my first concert (Sept 1978). CS has always been an inspiration to me (even though I'm a guitarist/keyboardist). No other bass player come close to distinctive bass lines than him.

My CS had very light strings. I think they were 95/75/45/35. I put on Roto 105/45 and had my local tech do a set up. Wow, what an amazing instrument. I was surprised how distinct it sounded from my 4003. Does anyone know what gauge comes on the CS? Should I put a,lighter gauge on my CS - 105/75/65/45?

I could have bought a new one back in '97 for a whopping $900.00. But, as luck would have it, I got hurt and had to have back surgery instead.

Being that Squire used Rotosound RS66LD strings, which are 45-105, I would guess that that's what gauges came on the basses from the factory.

The 4001CS used the same strings as all RIC basses. These are 45/55/75/105 nickel round wound strings.

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep the current set on and then put on the lighter gauge.
