I've also got a set of NOS Maxima flatwounds that I can't wait to put on the bass. Not sure if they are quite 40 years old though.

I don't know what the final year was for their production,but after Chris Squire changed the whole Rick bass sound in the early 70's,it probably happened around that time. Congrats on scoring a set,i just got a set myself,and never would have thought i'd live to see the day i would spend such big bucks for a string set.They're gonna be installed on my '72 4000 once i have the fret situation addressed.
