White switch tip, extra hole in the headstock (for a string tree?), two screws missing from the TRC, can't tell for sure from the photo of the headstock and fingerboard if the finish is still on the fingerboard or not.
Very nice figuring in the maple body, particularly on the back of it.

The nut looks like a replacement, too. The nut on my once-stock '72 is white plastic-like material.

Photographed on November 5th, 2005.

I remember playing it (upside down) and thought it sounded great.

Ah...LL 1586. One of my old girls from way back in the day.
Originally JG, (it's still in the control cavity) which is hard to believe when you look at the grain on the back of this one. White switch tip was there too, and being a late '72 could be original to the bass as we've seen a few of these from this period. It had been rewired poorly, but was in good working order, with the original hi gain present. I think the nut had been replaced, and it had been possibly been refretted and the board had received new lacquer.
It's a long time ago, but the bass looks exactly the same as when I last saw her some 10 years ago!

wints: Had the back edges already been shaved/sanded when you had it?

I can't recall that Len, but I'm sure it probably did. That probably happened during the refin...

Shouldn't that be March '72 Kevin? My Feb '72 has no stripe and I've seen and played other early '72s without, although I couldn't say about the binding.

Early '72 was the changeover to the shedua strip (skunk stripe).

I was mainly referring to the binding. Feb-March '71 was the cut off from my limited sampling.
