Understood: I use 8s 'cause I solo on the 12; much easier to bend.

But why would you want "dull" sounding E, A & D strings?

I find it pretty east to bend with .10s myself ;-)

the unwound strings never sound dull, they're regular strings, the only strings that are unique on a flatwound set are the low E A D G, they would usually be roundwound on a normal set, on a flatwound set they're flat. Them being flat instead of wound means that they are no longer louder than the high octave strings. Addition by subtraction.
