Also, so for the delay in returning to this thread, but we've had some major flooding here where I live. Freeway closed in both directions, gasoline rationing because there's no movement of fuel trucks etc. Just crazy.

I suppose since only the outputs of the volume controls are connected together, they aren't really in series, but they aren't connected with a jumper wire in an instrument with ROS. This has to make some kind of difference, but I don't know how it would be measured since the volume pots measure half their rated spec when plugged into a mono jack. In actual stereo mode the volume pot specs don't change. This would make for a bit brighter tone.

I have on two of my old ZON basses, and on the 4004L SPC.
One of my epi t-birds has the tone control removed (with a pickup selector in its place). Never done it on a Rickenbacker though.
