Incidentally, I noticed in Geddy Lees guitar collection book that he owns one of the wooden moulds used for the original aluminium casting!

That's pretty cool!pag wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 5:16 am Incidentally, I noticed in Geddy Lees guitar collection book that he owns one of the wooden moulds used for the original aluminium casting!
I almost did that years ago. Had quotes and everything ready. I couldn't do it without RIC's blessing and they weren't interested.pag wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 5:14 am Many of us have wanted to see a re-issue of the sand cast aluminium tailpiece and bridge. It was a better material which didn’t warp like the zinc ones and it looked better for having just the three screws concealed under the bridge. The only “drawback” as far as I can tell is that it was more costly to produce in terms of labour hours. I have had two replacement tailpieces on my CS one of which was the three screw C64 tail. The most common reason for the lift with the structurally weaker zinc tails seems to be from over tightening the three screws under the bridge where there is the slightest gap between the underside of the tailpiece and the bottom of the wood channel slot that the tailpiece sits in.A simple shim solved it for me. If someone out there could produce an aluminium reproduction suitable for both vintage and modern 4000 Series basses it would fly off the shelves!
