I'll say late '70's. I had one just like it. Its got a one piece guard , not the two piece version that came out in the early '80s, The neck pickup is in the mid-seventies location, the bridge is a modern non-slotted version, has new style knobs, and CHROME hardware. And if the truth would be known, I'd bet it originally had a black guard and black TRC.

Yeah, that's pretty close. It can only be from between very late '75 and very early '77. I think it's a 1976. My February '76 4001 is just like that - tall handrest, parallel running knobs, slightly narrower (!) headstock. As for being originally fitted with a black pickguard & TRC, that's a distinct possibility.
It would be interesting to ascertain the serial number on Will Lee's 4001.

I'm pretty sure that the pink tape was only available in 75...

The headstock of an April 1976 4001. Spot the wrong appointment.

Yes, the old-style TRC, which by early 1976 was gone for good. And I'm sure there were no 'stragglers'.
The black bushings are period correct.

Hey, that is (was) my bass. Yes, the TRC is wrong for this bass. The upper screw is missing because I don't want to drill a hole to accomdate it. That cover came with the bass when I bought it but is clearly wrong. That bass just sold on eBay. My first auction.
