You can make them out of stainless steel. It's hard but it works!

what alloy?
I think the alloy will determain the final polished colour. With the aluminium, the final polish lacks the bluish tint that a chrome piece has.
The working of the SS will be much more difficult than aluminium, welding may require back gassing-which I do not have a prep for.
But always open to suggestions

Why not make them out of mild steel and send them to be chromed?

Made a set from mild steel for my Shadow.
Good chrome guys are hard to find here...
Of course I could send it out.

Production not up to where I can be proud of the construction. My GTAW skills in aluminium are poor.

Forgive the obvious attempt at anonymity.
Every month I read Vintage Guitar, there is a section on Lost/stolen instruments, (yeah how can a guitar get lost?). I do not want to end up in there.
I believe every participant in our RIC family to be honest, helpful and open individuals. Therein lies the problem. Open forums such as this are just that-open. There are miscreants (sp?) that prowl such places looking for information on who has what and WHERE.
Some of us have more than one instrument. Somes guys have more than 10! (lucky). If Ebay is any indication of the demand for our lovelies multiply the 10 by $1500+ and you can see the attraction.
I'm no Oliver-Stone-conspiracy-black-helicopter devotee but similar incidents have happened to friends in the antique business, items were stolen after being listed on internet websites.
I apologize to any/all whom may feel offended by my fears or precautions.

Most of those items that get lost or stolen are stolen from gigs and such, sometimes people might break into your place and take things, but not because they are seeing them on a website. I've had people eyeing some of my instruments while loading out at the end of the night, being VERY careful to lock the truck when leaving them in there for even a few minutes.

Not only that, I feel that a place like this where I can post pics of my guitars might actually HELP, because if one of the fellow collectors runs across it, or sees it on Ebay, I might actually have a chance to get it back!
