I recently found a library book that showed some early Pink Floyd shots of Roger Waters with his 4001S. In one pic he has a tie of some kind around the two middle strings behind the nut. The shot is from around 1968 & clearly the bass was having problems from a bowing headstock as early as that.

It's on the back of the Ummagumma LP. "The Pink Floyd Live in London '67" is all Ric bass -very cool(and weird).

The V63/C64 are re-issues of this bass, and so is the CS..essentially a dot inlay, no binding, mono output bass...This model has been a re-issue issue for nearly 20 years now, and they have catered for southpaws too I believe...The bass Pete has in the pic certainly looks like a later model. When I bought a RM1999 back in 1981 it had a tree already fitted which was trying to help with the neck bow. I played around with it and couldn,t get the action low enough for my liking and finally unstrung it...This was back in 1990, before this site and all the knowledge within...It,s been unstrung, sitting in the case for the last 14 years.....I must get around to getting back together again...

I would like a Pete Quaife signature bass as long as his name wasn't on the pickguard (or anywhere else conspicious on the bass, and that goes for any signature bass for me. If I had a Chris Squire for example I'd change the pickguard if it were possible. Nothing against any of the players (I think both were great, with Pete being more of a favorite of mine) just don't like those signatures on the pick guards.

There was some Ric bass, I think a jetglo on The Darker side of the moon cover (and I haven't seen that album for thirty years)

True, I believe he played a FireGlo throughout the late 60's, and can be seen with it in several videos (which I will try and post pics from later on) as well as the horrifying "See Emily Play" video which shows him (gasp) playing CRICKET with it! That can't be good for the neck....

Does Ric need another signature 60,s RM1999 bass??...We have had the CS, and now the PMC, (which doesn,t have the signature, but hey, it,s his bass)...So, all Ric has to do is the PMC64 in fireglo with the original headstock, which is what a lot of people have asked for, and what I suspect will eventually happen, and you will then have as close to an original RM1999 that you,ll get...Whether you put a signature on the pickguard is another thing...

No, but a lot of dreaming gets done here on this Forum... but I'd take a bass like Pete is holding in the pics, it actually looks like a burgundy finish on it to me...
But when it gets down to it, I really like my v63s

I wrote to Mr. Hall to let him now that Pete Quaife would certainly be delighted to have his own Rick signature model. Mr. Hall is a very polite and educated man, and he told me that if Rickenbacker returns to making signature models, he would consider it. He told me that Rickenbacker would have to increase his production figures in order to do it. So maybe in the future there will be a 'Pete Quaife signature model'. Meanwhile, Pete is going to write to Mr. Hall to talk with him about this.

By the way: I don´t know how things work in the States in this matter, but here in Europe, the chances of being answered by a CEO of a corporation is ZERO, unless he is your father or your uncle. Mr. Hall is a 'rara avis', a charming man.

Actually myself, I would prefer a Pete Quaife model over many other signature models, I'd probably want one even with a signature on it.
He was one of the coolest looking (and playing) bass players of all time, he had that stance, bass way up high, looked very aloof, (was probably PO'd at Ray, haha!) I love his playing on Victoria (I hope he was the player, sounds like a Ric to me) I have played many Kinks tunes over the years and always liked his sound and style. Especially when he played way up on the neck and it still sounded like a bass. (a lost art)

Bob, he left the band before victoria ,thats the 70's anyway i think. I have seen later photos of the band, the bassist has a mustang or a precision.

Also i have seen many old kinks videos and photos of Pete Quaife with a Gibbo EB-3!

I think it was 1970 when it was a hit, it could have been recorded earlier. It sounds like his playing, maybe not though. Are you sure he left before Victoria?
