Jared - If you look on Ebay, some of the steel guitars claim the horseshoes are 1.25". You can almost tell by looking at them. I guess the smart thing to do is to ask the seller to measure. Still doesn't mean they'll work.

I'm sorry, I should clarify. What I'm looking for is an original horseshoe. It would probably be impossible to get from an old 4000 or 4001. The question is if I found an adjustable horseshoe from a steel guitar that measures 1.25" across, could I put it in a 4000 or 4001?

It seems that the steels from the '50s have the "current" type of horseshoe, probably the real difference is the bobbins and pole pieces only, the shoes and baseplate are basically the same dimensions.

'Does Geddy's count?'? Not with that replacement bass bridge and those humbuckers. Sorry.

Marc, the pole pieces from a lap steel won't line up for a bass.

Hi I am new to the Forum, and I have a pretty good collection of Ric basses and guitars, including a 4080 I got off Ebay.

Yeah!
Hi, Paul. I remember that 4080 being on Ebay a few months ago, and I'm sure you do too - I e-mailed you a shot of it then.
Welcome aboard, Jeff. Yes, do post some pics of your Rickenbacker collection in here. And, your comments on the 4080, please.

thanks for the warm welcome.

this is great that there is such a forum as this to discuss these great guitars.
as for the 4080, it Rocks! it is a 1978 model and it is in great condition (I did notice however that there is some small amount of corrosion in the bridges, and was wondering how to clean it with out damaging the bass, or the value. The body and fret and necks are immaculate. hte previous owner(s) did not use it very much as I can understand why. It is gorgeous. and it weighs half a TON I have to see my Chiropractor after rehearsals.... BUT I love it. hurt me. ;-P
as for my OTher basses, I have a 4003/5 JG (my first RIC), a 4003FL JG ( second RIC ordered by me to my wants), a 650C (first RIC 6 string), a 380 Laguna

(favorite 6 string I have ever played) and the 4080. I will try to post pictures all at once, but I may have to send multiple posts... I just don't know...but here is the Family.

Yes I remember you did Sérgio, in last November, and I then downloaded all the eBay pics. Jeff's baby is a nice June '78!
This is my favorite shot:
