Hi everyone thanks for the help.
I changed the strings lowered the action a little.
and it sounds great!! I would love to have an older ric with the .0047 cap for a side by side aural comparison. I think my ric sounds great but can it sound even better? Is the difference subtle
or dramatic?
Thanks again this community is great it reminds me of the chapman stick community only larger

Yes Paul uf. is the older symbol for mf. If I remember right it was uuf. for pico farad and uuuf. for nanofarad, and so on. I'm not positive though.
For me the difference with the cap is dramatic, I have one right now with a switch I just installed the other day (I have a couple of extra holes in my pick guard while I'm waiting for a new one) With the cap engaged the bass pickup is a lot louder compared to the treble pickup, and it sounds kind of nasel to me. I have flats on this bass, I think they sound a lot better with round wounds with the cap working. The cap cuts out a lot of mid and upper bass from the treble pickup. When I get my new guard I'll take out the switch and keep the cap bypassed.

Brett ... you can buy the capaciter at Radio Shack ... it is easy to put in ... basically it cuts the bottom off of your bridge pickup ... no lows and no low mids ... there are some here who think that the ONLY way to play a ric bass is with the bass cut capaciter installed ... then there are those like me who prefer the modern ric sound which is fuller and punchier ...
but you can experiment and see which sound you like
