...or that he doesn't think that they do! LOL

I asked him once if he even had any in his extensive collection, and he didn't think so, and had to consult his guitar tech. He may be a Ric fan on a kitstch level only, if at all. Who knows.

Kenny,
That is pretty lame of him considering that he plays it every night! I've seen them 51 times over the years, and he has played it almost every time I have seen them!

Steve, I think we're talking about Rick. My question was to Rick about Robin's guitar. Probably not too often a fan asks him a question about another band member's gear, and none about his own! Robin was a "no show" to the small throng of fans waiting after the show.

Awwwwwwwww....sorry about that! As far as I know, Rick doesn't play them much, if at all, live. But I'm sure he has one or 2 in his collection. Does anyone have a copy of that coffee table book about his guitar collection?
I got kind of side-tracked here and went back and read the original question about it belonging to the Ramones...I have NO clue! Image Sorry...I always associate them with Mosrites.

Come to think of it....Robin joined Cheap Trick in '75, and the Ramones put out their first record in '77 I believe, so Rick's story is probably true. I'll see if I can dig out some old pics of them playing live and verify it.

J, The rumour is not without foundation....

I do have a pic of Robin while recording "Dream Police" with the Ric, maybe 1978/79?

I have the book about Rick's collection, there are one or two RIC basses and maybe a guitar, not many in comparison to the usual Les Pauls, etc. I'll have to look when I get home. Wow, 51 times!

Yeah, it's been an ongoing thing with me since 1978. I worked at a concert hall and they came thru town and were the nicest people and I was totally into Tom's 12 string "wall of sound", so I followed them for a long time, and saw them everytime they came thru the Michigan area. Not so much anymore, but up until about 4 years ago, I was a lock to be there.

Robin's 450 looks like its probably a 1960 model.

I'm a huge CT fan, and finally got my short-scale Hamer 12 in '95 after wanting one since the "Heaven Tonight" LP came out. Anyway, Rick's guitar collection book has a few Rics in it, including an 8-string bass prototype.

I finally found the book; he has a 1964 model 1997, "one of the few Pete Townshend didn't smash", the eight string bass Ronn describes, and an Electro lap steel.

I saw CT four times between '78 and '79 and enjoyed it each time; Rick hit me square in the face with a pick once, great fun.

The basses in Rick's book belong to Tom. Tom bought the prototype 8 string bass from me in 1990 or so.

Sounds like you have a story I might like to hear, Scott! Care to share? How did you come to get that one?

Sorry it took me 6 months to reply here. When I'm gone, I'm gone, and when I'm here you can't shut me up...

Tom's 8 string Rick bass was in the collection of instruments I sold for John Hall in 1989 - 1990. In the same era I sold Tom a few other Rick basses and the Hofner he used for 'Can't Stop Falling In Love.' Around this time I loaned them Transonics and McGuinn's light show 341-12SF for a video. Tom later bought several of the Transonics.

Rick actually 'borrowed' the book idea from me. I had spoken to him about being included in a 'guitars of the stars' book project we were putting together that was going to feature a dozen or so major guitarists known for their collections. His response was 'sure, as long as I get something out of it.' Next thing I knew he was doing his own picture book.

The lefty Broadcaster in the book belongs to Bun E., the basses to Tom, and a couple of the other guitars to Robin. The two lefty Strats belonged to a guitar dealer who happened to be arond when they did the photo shoot. I owned both guitars by the time the book came out, and boy was I shocked to find out that Rick thought he had owned them.

There's no history like revisionist history, I always say...

So let's see a pic of this prototype 8-string Scott.
