The Fender screws are slightly bigger and the Gibson screws are slightly smaller

I bought a set but wondered if the roundwounds would kill the fret board...

But first I gotta learn how to play the darn thang!

Don't put round wounds on a Ric fretless, you'll be sorry! I use to use Rot half rounds, forgot the correct name, they sounded good for a couple of weeks when I was into the real bright sound, and didn't hurt the neck. If you want bright, try TI flats on it, it won't sound like Squire but it'll definitely cut through. Also most of the half rounds should give you that round wound sound, just not as loud, I think flats sound better on a fretless anyway, you get that nice upright-like growl if you set it up right.
