Ok, Bob, banging the headstock of one's bass headstock into the ceiling is an accident but, what makes one slide a bass down a flight of stairs into concrete?

Checking the intonation?

The thing that intrigues me about basses with alot of wear is that they must have been played alot. If that's the case, they must be good players.IMO this is more important than look on a vintage bass. I've tried some real closet classics that just play like ****.Well, they were P-Basses and Jazzes. That may be the reason.

That is a long story but since you asked....
I was 18 and playing my new P bass on the telephone (I went in and sat on the top of the celler stairs so no one could hear me talk, was a family habit) for my girlfriend unamplified, I put the phone right on the surface of my bass, somehow it slipped out of my hands and went bump bump bump, right down the stairs and landed on the concrete, haha! was not a pretty sight, it went down body end first and string side up though so I was lucky it just got banged up and it sounded better to boot.
I've got a 79 4001 that was refretted before I bought it and could use it again, and got a 4003 that has worn right through to the undercoat where it rests against my chest, those are honest wear marks, buckle rash is not. When I see a bass like that I think there's a player who cares more about his appearence than his basses.

OR a player who can't otherwise keep his pants up.

Nope, the old sideways buckle works great, ahah!
I used to do that whenever I wore a belt, turned the buckle to the side, I'm just a neurotic Marc, I don't mind sliding my bass down the stars but hate buckle rash.

You know we don't always trust these "new" members unless they are called Jeff ... but since he seems to like Ric's so much ... we will accept him ... it would be even better if he was an SVT fan ...

Probably not. He seems adverse to the word AMPEG.

Bob, I agree with you that there is no excuse for ME to create belt buckle rash. For some reason it doesn't bother me when others do it.

BTW did you ever notice that it does seem as though Rickenbacker owners tend to keep their bases in better shape then say P-bass owners?

Except for the ones the wives got to, most of the stuff on Ebay and in the shops looks pretty good

Besides, who plays Ricks through an Ampeg anyway? Maybe we should call this new guy Bobampeg? What do you guys think?
