Hm... My very first Rick bass was a December 1972 4001. Could this be the same? I guess I'll never know. I do seem to remember that the treble p.u. surround corners were dowright sharp, though.

Sergio...Do you have the serial number for your old 72? From the pics I think this one is 13xx..I,ll let you know when I get it. Paul, thanks...I,ll be comparing with your cool M/G FL... Shaun, I,m originally from the U.K. but now living in the States. I,m always looking at the gear there though, as there is still some very cool stuff about, although it is very expensive!! I was speaking to a guy the other night who has a very cool collection, some of which he is selling, including a 4080 and an early 80,s 4000 in Azureglo amongst others. There are still bargains there too. I found a 73 F/G FL in excellent condition last year in Brighton for 600 quid...Your buy even back in 1993 still seems a good price to me. Good story. I don,t think a pre 73 Ric would be on the wall for a year now!! With the exchange rate so good for you guys at present, it must be worthwhile importing or paying a visit here to pick up something...

Alas no, all I remember is the letters, 'LL'. My '72 4001 (bought used late 1979, sold early 1986) was Fireglo, and the tuners, the mute, and the selector switch 'bat' on it were not original. Magnets on the toaster p.u. were of the long type, and the treble p.u. had screws for polepieces.

Aww, that is almost identical to my long lost 4001, for a minute there I thought that might have been it, but the wood is in too good condition to have been mine. Still searching for it if anyone comes across it, 1971-1972 4001 in Mapleglo, Toaster, Checker binding, full width inlays, marks on headstock from string retainer, extra hole drilled in scratchplate, and an outline of a 5 point star on the top horn. Last seen in London UK. I don't care what condition it is in now, reward offered...
