Daniel, the only way that Ed can get it quicker is if he had an order already placed for that guitar before you called. He has orders placed all the time and keeps 100-150 Rickenbackers in stock according to the website previous to the present one where he rated Rick basses a 1 on a 7-point scale. Ed has a different view of right and wrong than most of us do. If what he said caused you to buy, it was the right thing and he did YOU a favor, as far as he's concerned.
I once ordered a new guitar from Ed, but probably never will again. I can buy used ones cheaper elsewhere, and Ed has little interest in used guitars it would seem (unless rare). Did he make you sign the "no returns" form and FAX you some credit card info to fill out? Ed is honest as far as the money handling goes and packs very well, but he's there to sell high priced new guitars.......and make you KEEP them after you check them out. Musician's Friend and others have a return policy, and I decided I will never buy sight unseen again without return privileges or at least trade-in privileges toward another guitar. I can see the "no returns" policy on special order items, or at least no return of deposit.

Also, FWIW, I suspect that Ed isn't interested in internet sales of Rickenbackers, as he rated the basses a 1 but keeps plenty of them in stock for the walk-in customers that will pay more for a bass they have seen than one that is unseen. Ed does NOT compete on price on some items, like the Hohner Steinberger stick bass and stick guitar copies that are hard to find in most local stores. Have you noticed that Rick basses are also hard to find in local stores, while sometimes you can find the guitars? He charges more for them than the internet Rick dealers because he CAN because he has them IN STOCK and will sell it anyway at a higher price than any of the Rick specialist internet dealers will probably quote you. He also doesn't like dealing with Rickenbacker customers too much because he considers them too picky over very minor flaws, and he probably has a hard time with customers who order them sight unseen. He said Rickenbackers with the slightest blemish flaws from customer mishandling were very hard to sell, moreso than almost any other brand.

I've had OK luck with ELderly - THey sent me a well-setup 330 with no problems. OTOH I didn;t get the keys to the case, or the adjustment tools 
Mike Parks at The Rickenbacker Page is a nice guy to deal with - only purchased strings from him though. He works with a good, Rick-friendly luthier too - which is always nice to know.
